Office Tour! A Ramble about My Productive Space

Hello and welcome to all of my new readers! Welcome to Writing My World, and if this is your first post I hope you enjoy your visit, however long it is.

I figured today we would do a fun, simple post showing you my office, where all the magic happens. From painting, to writing, to everything else in between I do creatively.

It’s not a deep dive into the world’s most beloved tropes or a charming anecdote about my time as a cringey fanfiction writing teenager but hopefully it will provide enough entertainment.

As we enter the office I have a shelf where I keep any canvases I have started pencil drawings on but not painted yet. The featured image depicts a hilariously obese cardinal I took a picture of last winter and decided to draw so I could paint him later. No, I did not paint the cow, although I would proudly take credit for such a masterpiece if I could.

Fun fact, I am actually terrified of cows, but I buy an obscene amount of photographs and paintings of them every chance I get. Masochist I suppose.

The dragon axe is a piece I got on vacation two years ago and it was too badass to pass up.

This is my favorite piece of furniture I own, so I brought it to my office when I moved away from home. I’ve always appreciated a mixture of heavy wood and iron. Paint it black and you can sign me up. The enormous binder on the left is my current book. I’ve always loved binders and I’m going to use one for each book. Before I got a binder I was under the impression I could have one binder for multiple books, and after I got a binder we all had a good laugh about that misconception.

It has my city maps, a world map, a printout of my book, my current WIP, (work in progress) pencils, colored tabs for marking pertinent information, and some notes on the improvements I want to make this go around.

The candle is sugared cinnamon apple and it is AMAZING for capturing these fall vibes that are hitting the southern US right now. If you like cinnamon foodie scents, this is a perfect candle for you.

The book, dragon, business card combo is the profile pic for my Facebook page (which by the way is now up to 25 followers which I’m pretty hyped about) that I left assembled because I really liked it. I got the book as a Christmas gift last year and it’s from Etsy. The dragon is a 3D print from a local printer 3DStylez. And my business card is of course my own design I made on VistaPrint. If you missed me talking about those, check out my post discussing marketing here.

The bouquet is the one I carried in my wedding, and I love using it as a fall decoration.

My little makeshift shelf in the back was built, and I have various decorations on each wooden shelf. The two crossed knives I got when I bought the axe.

This is the beautiful art table my husband bought me for my birthday last year. It has lovely storage bins for all manner of artsy supplies on the bottom part, and the top is a glass table that adjusts.

This table has been a game changer for painting. I used to paint in the basement and it was a pain having to carry my supplies up and down the stairs when I wanted to paint. Now I can keep everything in my office and paint whenever I want. It kind of becomes a plant holder when I’m not painting because plants are amazing, but I just move them when I’m feeling creative.

Any paint splatters that happen wipe off easily with Windex, and it’s great for tracing and things too because of the glass top.

I use this table to worldbuild too because it has tons of space to spread out my atlas, notebooks, and anything else I’m using. The same can’t be said of my actual desk, which is pretty cozy.

Here we have my teeny little desk I type at. The massive fantasy map was a gift and I wanted it for my wall. Ideally I’d like to have one of my own world, but we aren’t quite there yet in my writing journey. I got the dragon at Comic-con in Indiana, which was a first for me. I freaking loved Comic-con and I can’t wait to go again. I have my flashdrives that house all of my writing, my business cards, index cards, pens, and all manner of other goodies on my desk. Including a candy jar in the shape of a dog because sometimes a woman gets snackish at work.

I would absolutely love to have a bigger desk, but for now my cozy office just doesn’t have the room for it. I would love to have a desk that wraps around the entire room, with a rolling chair that massages my lumbar and automatically drives along the desk wherever I nee-

You know what, nevermind.

And finally we have my cube storage. When you live in a tiny house, you learn to absolutely love storage. Especially when that storage is labeled and organized to high heaven. I have all of my painting supplies, makeup, my books and writing all organized in alphabetical order, new notebooks, all of my used notebooks which cover everything from worldbuilding to storybuilding to marketing.

I also have an autograph from Billy Boyd, also acquired at Comic-con, and I’ll have you know he told me I looked amazing. It’s been my crowning achievement thus far as a nerd, and the blushies I got would put anime girls to shame.

Some of my book collection highlights are the complete Redwall series by Brian Jacques, The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins, the Shadow and Bone series by Leah Bardugo, the Six of Crows series by the same author, and yes… Twilight. It’s a cheeky comfort read. I’ve been bad about buying books for a long time because of lack of room and a huge break in reading. I’m getting back into it finally, because it’s important for writers, and I have a growing TBR pile.

So, that is my current office. This is the first office I’ve ever had, and it meant so much to me to transform it from a guest bedroom/oversized storage closet to the office of my dreams. Remember, small dreams are still dreams. Big things are coming in the next few years though, and I can’t wait to continue upgrading it and keeping my productive space the kind of place I feel proud to create in.

I hope you enjoyed this more fun, lighthearted, silly post. I do enjoy my deep dives and dissections but sometimes it’s nice to do something simple.

Thank you so much for reading, and I will see you next time!

Happy Creating!
