Quests for Inspiration Episode 2: Beachy Edition

Welcome back, dear readers, to the Writing My World blog!

I’ve been MIA for some time now, because creativity is a fickle thing, and while those golden moments where I can write blog posts, write my book, draw up maps, and worldbuild all at the same time do exist, they are fleeting in the grand scheme of my creative process.

And so I have been spending a lot of time working on my magic system, maps, and completing several chapters of my book. But this post isn’t for that type of waffle. Today we’re going on another quest for inspiration. Or rather, I’m going to show you some photos I took while I was on vacation to break the ice on getting back into blogging again and get my creative juices flowing.

I was lucky enough to photograph pelicans, an entire sunset from start to finish, and swamp vegetation and wildlife.

I learn and describe visually, so I take a lot of pictures. My in-book and lore descriptions are bolstered and sometimes made possible in general by looking at or taking a picture.

My first day on the beach I was lucky enough to be able to photograph a big group of beautiful pelicans. I don’t want to give too much away, but getting great pictures of their wingspans, color patterns, and feathers in detail was a huge boon to me in accurately describing one of my fantasy races.

I think my favorite pictures were the ones I took of the first sunset there, from start to finish. What a beautiful experience. Every time I would put my camera down, a new color or ray of sunlight or cloud would form, and I was taking another picture. It was truly a joyous experience and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys photography!

The ocean fascinates me. I get my kicks watching Youtube videos about sea monsters, unknown sounds radiating from the depths, and other underwater horrors. I loved sitting on the balcony taking in the true vastness of it. The undulating, flowing blue that meets the sky. What lurks at the very bottom? I’ll stop now.

Where I’m from, we don’t have many swamps. So we took the opportunity to visit a park and see some so I could take some pictures. We didn’t stay long because of the alligator warnings, but I got some pictures of the wildlife, vegetation, and overall landscape. Great for worldbuilding and writing different locations and biomes into my books!

And thus ends our second quest for inspiration. I hope you felt inspired, or even just enjoyed the pictures. Thank you so much for reading. I had a blast on my vacation, and even though I used it as a break from my work, I’ll always find a way to include my writing in anything I do.

With that, I will see you all next time. Have a great day, and

Happy writing!
